Valentine’s Day is approaching and it’s a great opportunity to teach your child the concept of kindness and gratitude to express how much the special people in their life mean to them. Kids can show their loved ones how much they care with these fun do-it-yourself gifts that are straight from the heart!

Valentine’s Finger Paint Picture Frame

Your child can design a one-of-a-kind gift with their own fingerprints! This project is great for the little ones that want to join in on all of the Valentine’s Day fun and festivities!

What you will need:

  • Red, Pink, and White Washable Finger Paint
  • White Picture Frame
  • Optional: Use stencils, glitter, or other embellishments

To Do:

  • Your child can simply dip their thumb into the paint and go to town adding their fingerprints all around the frame.
  • Let the paint dry and add your embellishments as needed.
  • Your gift is ready for giving!

Chalk Stencil Heart Collage

This Valentine’s gift is so fun to create yet so simple! Kids of all ages can really get creative with this project! Make this project into a card or frame it. The possibilities are endless!

What you will need:

  • Black Construction Paper
  • Chalk in the colors of your choosing (Red, Pink, and White are the perfect Valentine’s colors)
  • Cotton balls
  • Heart stencil (You can make your own stencil using cardstock paper or purchase your own)

To Do:

  • Use the stencil to draw hearts on the paper.
  • Once you have all of your hearts drawn, take a cotton ball and brush the chalk outwards creating a fading affect.
  • Now your gift is ready to brighten someone’s day!

Valentine Salt Dough Hearts

Share the love this Valentine’s day with salt dough hearts! This recipe is super easy to make and a great gift for that special someone. You can create fun ornaments, garland, décor, magnets and more.

What you will need:

  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1 cup of salt
  • Up to 1 up of water
  • Acrylic paint
  • Heart Shaped Cookie Cutters

To Do:

  • Mix the flour and salt together and add the water gradually (You do not want to the dough to be sticky)
  • Roll out the dough about 5mm
  • Cut out the shapes using the cookie cutter (Use chopsticks to make a hole if you want to hang the heart)
  • Place the dough hearts into the oven and bake for 100°C/212°F for 3 to 4 hours (Be sure to turn dough 2-3 times and re-puncture holes to ensure the holes do not bake shut)
  • When your dough is completely dry and cooled off, the dough heart is ready for painting
  • Let dry for at least another 2 to 3 days to be sure your creation is fully dry and in tip top shape!
