As the holidays get closer, the aisles in stores get emptier and emptier! Most everyone ventured out early to get their shopping done when shelves were full and gifts were easy to come by. However, if that ‘most everyone’ was not you, never fear; There is still hope for those who procrastinate! We came up with a few last minute gift ideas to help you complete your last minute shopping!

  • Show off your DIY skills and make your own custom gifts! Take a trip to your local craft store and grab some supplies to make your gift. You can make your child slime, playdough, room décor, bags, outfits and accessories for everyday wear or dress up play, and much more! The possibilities are endless to what you can create!
  • When it doubt, you can always give your child a gift card or gift certificate to their favorite toy stores, arcades, play places, restaurants, or anywhere your child will enjoy. These are great if you are not sure what to get your child this year or if a certain item on your child’s wish list flew off the shelves before you had the chance to get it. Gift cards are a great option for older kids as well. This way your child can pick out their own gift without the stress of finding a gift at the last minute!
  • Get creative and put together custom holiday gift baskets, bags, or stockings for your child! You can make these for any child at any age. Fill your gift with goodies your child will enjoy. Another idea is to come up with a theme and put together gifts that revolve around your desired theme.

Here are some examples:

– Movie Night: Fill your gift baskets with movies your child will love along with some yummy popcorn and candy.

– D.I.Y: Put together some art and crafts supplies or kits for your child to create fun Do-It-Yourself projects.

– Yummy Treats: Create a gift filled with ingredients and a recipe for easy-to-make delicious treats that they can do themselves or with the help of a parent or you can even give your child pre-made treats.

Toys to Teach Diversity at Home

Diversity: “having different forms, types, ideas” or “having people who are difference races or who have different cultures in a group.”

Sending your child from home to school opens them up to a variety of new ideas, different cultures, and peers of different races. One way to encourage, support, and prepare your child for a transition that instills openness and acceptance of differences in classroom is by using learning resources that teach diversity at home. In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we have a compiled a list of our favorite toys and books to help you promote diversity in your children from an early age:
